Our Origin

Pérez y Cía. Group was founded in 1853 by Mr. Ángel Bernardo Pérez, who started his activity by setting up a Shipping Agency in Santander and hiring the brigantines “Teresa” and “Tersicore” for trade with the island of Cuba.

As a consequence of its close relationship with the first Marquis of Comillas, the firm participated in the founding of the “Compañía Transatlántica Española” in 1881.

A Long Journey

Grupo Pérez y Cía was founded in 1853 by Mr. Angel Bernardo Pérez, who started his activity by setting up a Shipping Agency in Santander and hiring the brigantines “Teresa” and “Tersicore” for trade with the island of Cuba.
As a consequence of its close relationship with the first Marquis of Comillas, the firm participated in the founding of the “Compañía Transatlántica Española” in 1881.
Remolques Unidos Foundation: In 1962 PYC becomes part of Remolques Unidos, a company dedicated to the activity of maritime towing in the Port of Santander, as well as salvage services.
In 1967, expansion throughout Spain began, with the opening of new offices and the acquisition of former consignees. In 1979, the expansion in America is consolidated with the inauguration of Pérez y Cía. (Puerto Rico), resulting in the opening of new offices in the Caribbean and Central America.
In 1991, Gesamar Insurance Brokerage was founded, dedicated to technical advice and brokerage of all types of insurance, such as maritime, real estate, personal, merchandise, transport and shipbuilding, with the aim of minimizing operational risks.
In 1994, M.P.G. (Manipulaciones Portuarias Grupajes y Tránsitos) joined the group. Through an international infrastructure of multiple clients and fully dedicated distribution centers, it designs specialized logistics solutions and provides supply chain management services, including consulting and outsourcing services. Thanks to its steady growth, MPG has achieved a position among the top national logistics groups in 2021.
In 2001, the company Copitrans joins the Perez y Cia. Group, providing container and freight transportation services to any destination in the European Union.
In 2001 Remolques Unidos became part of the company that operated the port towing concession in Malaga, acquiring the entire company in 2006.
In 2008, the company Almacenes Pérez Noreste joins the group providing storage of containers and goods in the commercial dock of the port of Vigo.
In 2010Vigo Cruise Terminal started providing services to both passengers and Shipping Lines. A year later, in 2011, Coruña Cruise Terminal was inaugurated. Due to its geographical location, Coruña is a strategic point in the shipping routes to and from Northern Europe.

In 2011 Remolques Unidos is positioned as the main shareholder involved in the management of the Barcelona Towing Company.
In 2012, the company Carmar Soluciones Logísticas was incorporated, specializing in transport from the Peninsula to the Balearic and Canary archipelagos, both for full loads and groupage.
In 2013, the Cadiz Cruise Terminal started to operate, with the opening of two terminals. Its locationin a key strategic point, the heart of the city, benefits the accessibility of passengers to the historical and monumental area.
In 2015, Panama Service Center is created as the administrative and regional center for the Caribbean subsidiaries of Pérez y Cía: Jamaica; Dominican Republic; Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.
In 2016 Insignia Shipping Company is born, dedicated to cover general cargo, breakbulk, heavy lift and tramp shipping worldwide.
In 2018 Perez y Cia. Group acquires C.F.S (Caribbean Feeder Services), one of the main feeder operators in the Caribbean and Central America region. It operates a feeder services network in the Caribbean and Central America centered in the ports of Kingston (Jamaica) and Manzanillo (Panama), covering also (Honduras, Belize and Guatemala), Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana and the Caribbean (Dutch Antilles, Haiti, Dominican Republic, San Juan de Puerto Rico).
In 2019 Carmar maritime Services is created, a new business division that will focus on the supply of consumables to all types of vessels as well as other services such as storage and transit of spare parts destined for vessels.
In 2020 “China Project Division” opened, establishing its headquarter in Shanghai, given the connectivity provided by this cosmopolitan city. On the other hand, the operational office in Ningbo.
In 2021 Pérez y Cía. acquires the SPC group, which has two divisions: Shipping specialized in Maritime Agency services (Regular and Tramp Line), Project Cargo and Chartering and Logistics which focuses its activity on Freight Forwarding services, Customs Management and Logistics Solutions.
In 2021 , Pérez y Cía. becomes the most important Maritime Agency in the entire Iberian Peninsula by acquiring Burmester & Stüve, Navegação, a Portuguese Shipping Agency with more than 125 years of history and that cover activities from Port Agency, Maritime Agency (Regular and Tramp Services) Freight Forwarding and Project Cargo and with offices in Aveiro, Leixões, Lisbon, Viana do Castello, Portimão, Setúbal, Sines and Pombal.
En 2021 Pérez y Cía. Group strengthens its presence in Asia through its participation in Britoil Offshore Services’s acquisition, a leading global provider of marine transportation and anchor handling vessels, primarily focused on executing complex offshore oil and gas projects worldwide, based in Singapore and founded in 1988.
At the end of 2021, ATELDE is born, specialized in the storage and distribution of submarine cable Will be located in the Zona Franca in Cádiz
The Group acquires 100% of Barcelona Container Depot Service, S.L. (BCDS) at the end of 2023, further solidifying its presence in the Port of Barcelona. The merged company offers a wide range of services, including container storage and repair, as well as IsoTank cleaning.
The Group acquires 100% of Martrans. Martrans Logistics and Transport specializes in import and export services. With expertise in customs and transportation, the company provides efficient solutions both nationally and internationally, including maritime and air transport in the Canary Islands.
In September 2023, Britoil Offshore Services, a company in which the Pérez y Cía. Group has a stake, completed a significant acquisition by adding 30 offshore vessels from the Dutch shipowner Vroon to its fleet. Along with this acquisition, the offices in Genoa and Singapore became part of Britoil.
In April 2023, Remolques Unidos, a company within the Group with over 60 years of experience in the sector and more than 40 built tugboats, decided to leave the company Remolcadores de Barcelona S.A. to focus more on his activity as a shipowner.
In 2024, Remolques Unidos (“RUSA”), a part of the Group, strengthens its presence in the Port of Santander with the acquisition of Remolques y Servicios Santander (“REYSER Santander”), including in this operation the purchase of the tugboats “Clara G” and “El Península.” After 62 years of providing towing services in the Port of Santander, the company RUSA consolidates its presence in the Port of Santander with this acquisition.
In 2024, Pérez y Cía. Group acquires EUCONSA, a carrier specialized in intermodal transport of bulk chemicals and petrochemicals.
In 2024, Pérez y Cía. Group acquired Peru Maritime Group, which offers a comprehensive range of services, including General Agency, NVOCC, cabotage, logistics, freight forwarding, and the handling of dry, refrigerated, and project cargo.
